BETA Note: CFiles language support is
considered to be in complete working order, however we have not yet declared it
complete in case we need to insert extra phrases. This will of course be
declared complete before the end of the beta period.
Language support in CFiles has been designed to be a dynamic solution. CFiles
allows you to change the language with the simple flick of a switch on any
page, and to then have that preference rembered for future use. This means that
people from all over the world can set up a CFiles library, and if a foreign
speaking visitor hapens upon it, they can simply change to their language
preference and the display will be instantly updated.
CFiles does this using it's own language files which contain all the words and
phrases used throughout the program. In the /languages directory is the
english.lang file. Because of the way CFiles can change languages on the fly,
it needs those languages to be defined beforehand. Therefore, if you are
multi-lingual and interested in translating the english.lang to your own
language, you will need to submit that language file to Carrick for inclusion.
Send it to sean@carrickit.com.au.
As an added bonus, for each language, the first person to send us a completed
translation file will receive 1 full CFiles licence. We are not looking for
babelfish translations. If you work on a translation, we expect you to be a
fluent speaker in that language and able to convey not just the words, but the
meaning of the words also, in a form that fits within the size contstraints of
the default carrick theme. We have included a very poor babelfish Spanish
translation to show how we don't want the translations to look. If you are
facing problems fitting your language into the default carrick theme, please go
to http://www.carrickit.com.au/forums to discuss the
problem.
